Classic Theatre. Fresh Perspective.

Speak Low Productions creates dynamic, actor-driven productions that reimagine classic stories for contemporary audiences.

The Heart of Speak Low

Speak Low Productions was founded on the belief that classic theatre should feel immediate, accessible, and deeply human.

As technology continues to reshape the way we connect, I believe live theatre offers something increasingly rare: the opportunity for people to gather in one room, share a story, and experience something together that can never be replicated through a screen. That sense of connection is at the heart of everything Speak Low creates.

Our mission is to reimagine classic works through fresh, contemporary perspectives while remaining faithful to the emotional truth and language that have made these stories endure for generations. We aren't interested in changing classics simply for the sake of being different—we want to uncover new ways of seeing stories audiences thought they already knew.

Speak Low Productions was also created to support the incredible artists who make theatre possible. The Los Angeles theatre scene is home to an extraordinary community of actors, designers, directors, and technicians whose talent deserves opportunities to create meaningful work. As the company grows, our commitment is to build productions that not only challenge and inspire audiences but also provide fair opportunities for the artists who bring those productions to life whenever possible

Libby Letlow - Director

I'm Libby Letlow, founder and artistic director of Speak Low Productions. For more than twenty years, I've worked throughout the Los Angeles theatre community as an actor, stage manager, assistant director, production manager, and theatre artist. Those experiences have given me a deep appreciation for every person and every discipline involved in bringing a production to the stage.

Speak Low Productions is the culmination of that journey—a company built from a lifelong love of classical theatre, a passion for collaboration, and a belief that familiar stories can still surprise us when viewed through a new lens.

Our inaugural production, a gender-swapped Romeo & Juliet set against the backdrop of the 1980s, embodies that vision. It honors Shakespeare's timeless language while inviting audiences to reconsider ideas of power, identity, family, and first love through a fresh perspective.

This is only the beginning. My hope is that Speak Low Productions becomes a home for artists, audiences, and timeless stories that continue to challenge, entertain, and connect us for years to come.
